Project Description Challenges
To improve outdated interchange and frontage road connections to meet current
safety standards. Specifically, to improve traffic movement between
interstate ramps and Chestnut Street.
To design an interchange that will help improve traffic flow for both current and
future conditions. Improvements will be consistent with the recommendations for
the Environmental Assessment to address mobility throughout the I-25 Corridor
through El Paso County.
To enhance mobility in the area by better accommodating commercial and local
traffic on the Fillmore Street bridge over I-25.

Project Solutions
Construct a new interchange to replace the existing one that includes
reconfiguring interstate ramps and Chestnut Street for better traffic movement.
Widen the Fillmore Street bridge over I-25, provide additional left turn
lanes at the intersection and look at ways to improve the connecting roadways of
Chestnut Street and Sinton Road.

Top Priorities
The primary goals of this project are to improve; safety for the traveling public,
traffic flow on I-25, access to the interstate, and local traffic mobility.
The conceptual and preliminary designs will be coordinated with and become an
integral part of the ongoing Environmental Assessment for the entire I-25 Corridor
in El Paso County.
CDOT will address ways to maintain traffic flow during all phases of construction
as well as to minimize disruption to property owners and businesses along
Chestnut Street, Sinton Road and Fillmore Street.
CDOT will actively involve the public throughout the design phases of the project
and will keep them informed of progress during construction.

Current Status
The proposed action has been selected and is being evaluated under the
Environmental  Assessment (EA) of I-25.
Schedule for preliminary and final design on hold pending EA.
