Project
Challenges
High concentration of businesses and
homes with
Nevada Avenue access
points.
Weather and high traffic volume on
Nevada Avenue
had damaged the
roadway surface.
High traffic volume on Nevada Avenue
generated
noise in residential
areas.
Current Status
Construction is
complete.
Project Description
Rotomilled existing roadway surfaces and repaved
with two inches
of new asphalt from Uintah Street
north to I-25.
Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA), a different type of
pavement,
was used in the residential areas
between Uintah and Lilac
Streets to:
  Provide a skid resistant surface.
  Help reduce traffic noise.
  Reduce ruts in the pavement.
  Reduce glare.
Project Solutions
Measured noise levels in residential areas to
gauge the performance
of SMA over the next
several
years.
Maintained at least one lane of traffic in each
direction on Nevada Avenue throughout the
construction
process.
Minimized impact to the community by working in
the residential
areas
during daylight hours and
working in the commercial areas
in the
evening,
whenever possible.
Completed the necessary roadway
improvements as
quickly and with
as
little impact
to the community
as possible.
Improved driving conditions.
Kept the community informed of temporary
access issues and
construction schedules.
