Access
to Downtown:
Bicycle and pedestrian
access and safety are integral to the Monument Valley Park and surrounding
downtown businesses. The Bijou Street overpass, which crosses I-25 and
Monument Creek ,and the existing trail along Monument Creek, are two of
the area’s critical pedestrian links. To mitigate impacts from construction,
a free shuttle bus service to neighborhoods along the west side of I-25
to the downtown area will be provided while the Bijou street bridge is
closed. More information on the shuttle service will be available at a
later date when we are nearing the work for the Bijou Interchange.
Trail and Pedestrian Access
Impacts:
The Midland and Pikes Peak Greenway trails
are critical components to the Colorado Springs trail system. The COSMIX project is dedicated to minimizing inconvenience to commuters and trail users. Trails in Colorado Springs will experience some impacts around the areas where the construction zone crosses or abuts the trails. All trails
will remain open from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week. Any temporary
closures outside of these hours will be for safety reasons during construction,
such as structure removal and girder placement.
