COSMIX Construction Impacts: I-25 to Shift onto new Bridge over Colorado Avenue - COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Thursday, May 31, 2007) – Since early fall 2006, crews have been rebuilding the I-25 bridges over Colorado Avenue in a limited working area while maintaining traffic on I-25 above and on Colorado Avenue below. The new, wider northbound I-25 bridge is nearly complete and ready for traffic to shift onto it early next week. Northbound I-25 will complete the shift into the new lane alignment by Monday, June 3, weather pending, and the southbound shift will be the following night. Please refer to the attached graphic for additional information. Traffic Shift Map.pdf file

New COSMIX Public Information Officer Named - COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Wednesday, May 30, 2007) – Effective this week, Kyle Troxel will be transitioning into the role of Public Information Officer for Rockrimmon Constructors on the Colorado Springs Metro Interstate Expansion (COSMIX) project.

PSA - Make Driving Easier with Carpooling - The COSMIX Team would like to remind motorists that Carpooling is a great idea, in light of high gas prices and to provide company while you’re checking out construction progress.

COSMIX Construction Impacts: May 29th-June 1st, 2007 - COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Wednesday, May 30, 2007) – Due to late day rain showers, please note the following scheduling changes this week.

COSMIX Construction Impacts: Crews not working through Memorial Day Weekend - COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Friday, May 25, 2007) –In honor of the Memorial day Holiday, COSMIX Construction will be put on hold to ease holiday traffic congestion. Crews will resume work on Tuesday, May 29th. The following construction activities and impacts for next week are summarized below.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Monday, May 21, 2007) – Northbound I-25 remains on schedule to shift from its current configuration on the northbound frontage road in the Nevada / Rockrimmon Area to a new alignment on the future northbound lanes just in time for the Memorial Day weekend on Friday, May 25. The new northbound lane alignment will be similar to the southbound traffic shift onto the new pavement that occurred early May. This will result in the reopening of the new exit for Rockrimmon Boulevard, NB Exit 148, the week after Memorial Day, not as previously reported on the same day as the I-25 traffic shift.
Please refer to the attached graphic for a more detailed description.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Saturday, May 19, 2007) – After several weeks of minimal impacts in the COSMIX construction zone, motorists can expect a few changes the week before Memorial Day weekend. The recently advertised lane alignment change will occur Friday morning with the opening of the new northbound lanes in the Nevada / Rockrimmon area. Another lane shift next week that may impact traffic more will occur with a southbound lane drop from Fontanero to Uintah by Thursday morning.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Wednesday, May 16, 2007) – Work activities on the COSMIX Project continue this week to focus on the northbound lanes in the Nevada / Rockrimmon area and on the Bijou Interchange. Several overnight lane closures associated with both those areas can be expected tonight and tomorrow night. The remaining impacts for this week include:

COSMIX Construction Impacts: Thursday, May 10, to Sunday, May 13 - COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Thursday, May 10, 2007) – Rockrimmon Constructors continues to work on the northbound lanes in the Nevada / Rockrimmon area in anticipation of being able to shift traffic onto the new northbound pavement before Memorial Day weekend. One of the work activities involves the replacement of a small portion of temporary asphalt with concrete on the right lane just south of Woodmen. Crews will implement a 14-hour overnight, right lane closure this Saturday night to complete the work. Although traffic is generally very light at this time, motorists can expect some congestion and delays from Nevada Avenue to Woodmen Road. The remaining impacts for this week include:

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Monday, May 7, 2007) – COSMIX Crews opened up a new stretch of interstate lanes last Friday. Now after decades of exiting to the left, the new challenge for southbound motorists is to remember that the exit to North Nevada Avenue is now a right-hand exit. The impacts and closures for the next several nights include:

  • Right lane closure on southbound I-25 from Academy Boulevard to Corporate Drive Monday, May 7, 8:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
  • A right lane closure on southbound I-25 from Academy Boulevard to Corporate Drive is necessary to remove overhead signage.
  • Lane closures on northbound I-25 from Cimarron Street to Bijou Street Tuesday, May 8, 8:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
  • Lane closures on northbound I-25 from Cimarron Street to Bijou Street will be necessary for pothole repairs.
  • Right lane closure on southbound I-25 from Bijou Street to Cimarron Street Tuesday, May 8, 8:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
  • A right lane closure on southbound I-25 from Bijou Street to Cimarron Street is necessary to complete the repair to a storm water inlet grate, which crews temporarily fixed on Monday morning, May 7.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Monday, May 7, 2007) – COSMIX Crews are currently implementing a southbound right lane closure from Bijou Street (Exit 142) to Cimarron Street (Exit 141) to repair an storm water inlet grate that has come loose. It is anticipated that the lane closure will be complete by approximately 11 a.m. Please watch for crews and allow for a little extra travel time this morning:

The new southbound lane alignment planned for tomorrow has been postponed due to the rain. The last activity to complete is the lane striping but with the heavy rain received so far, the pavement is too wet to paint. The next scheduled attempt will be overnight on Thursday, May 3, with the new lane alignment being implemented on Friday, May 4.

(Sunday, April 29, 2007) – As early as May 2, southbound I-25 will begin using the new lanes in the Nevada / Rockrimmon area. Since mid-summer 2006, southbound traffic has been using the future southbound frontage road as I-25 while COSMIX crews reconstructed the interstate. The new alignment opens up more than two miles of new concrete lanes and four new bridges to interstate motorists. Also, the new interstate is 36 feet higher in some areas than the former I-25 to accommodate several new underpasses.

Monuments for West Side of Bijou Bridge Poured - Gateway to Downtown starting to take shape. Rockrimmon Constructors formed and poured the molds for the 17-foot monuments on the west side of the Bijou bridge this week. The monuments were added to the bridge design as part of the collaborative effort between the Colorado Department of Transportation, the Downtown Partnership, the City of Colorado Springs and El Paso County to create a gateway to Downtown and the Westside. When the Bijou bridge is completed there will be four monuments; two on the west side and two on the east side of the bridge. The monuments will be finished with a stone facade.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Friday, April 20, 2007) – Typically COSMIX crews do not implement overnight lane closures on the Interstate on Friday or Saturday nights. However, a pothole has developed that needs immediate attention on northbound I-25 at Exit 148a to North Nevada Avenue. The pothole has spread across both lanes, so crews will begin with a right lane closure tonight at 8:30 p.m. and then swap to a left lane closure sometime around midnight to repair the road:

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Saturday, April 14, 2007) – COSMIX crews will be watching the weather forecast closely this week in anticipation of paving the northbound I-25 bridge over Colorado Avenue. Crews had planned on last Thursday but were thwarted by the threat of snow. Another attempt will be made early this week pending weather.

COSMIX Progress Marches On - Bijou Interchange 40 Percent Complete COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (April 4, 2007) – COSMIX construction crews reached 40 percent completion on the Bijou Street Interchange last week, when traffic on north and southbound Interstate 25 was shifted onto the new concrete lanes under the Bijou Street bridge. The shift marked the second major milestone in the Bijou segment. The first milestone was accomplished earlier in March, when crews set girders for the Bijou Street bridge over I-25.

COSMIX Construction Impacts:Tuesday, April 3, through Thursday, April 5 - COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Tuesday, April 3, 2007) – This week is National Work Zone Awareness Week and the COSMIX Team and Rockrimmon Constructors remind motorists that the COSMIX construction zone operates day and night. Flaggers, surveyors, and construction workers are often working in close proximity to the roadway. In addition, the lanes in the construction zones are often narrower and may shift slightly from one day to the next. Please drive safely, our worker’s safety and yours depends on it.

COSMIX Construction Impacts: Monday, April 2 and Tuesday, April 3 - COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Saturday, March 31, 2007) – There is planned daily intermittent closures, Monday and Tuesday, going East bound on Cimarron Bridge, flaggers will be directing traffic to allow trucks to enter and exit the construction zone for demolition activity.

COSMIX Construction Impacts: Thursday, March 29 and Sunday, April 1 - COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Thursday, March 29, 2007) – The planned overnight closure of southbound I-25 to shift traffic to under the Bijou Street Bridge has been postponed to Sunday night. The Bijou Street Bridge deck has been poured and the new I-25 lanes are nearly complete but due to inclement weather have been rescheduled. This shift in traffic will allow workers to begin reconstruction of the southbound on and off-ramps to Bijou Street, which are expected to re-open by end of September 2007.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Monday, March 26, 2007) – The planned overnight closures of one lane on East bound Colorado Ave to complete overhead Bridge work in the Colorado Bridge Area. This lane closures will allow workers to begin overhead bridge work from 8:30pm to 5am.

Interstate closures to shift traffic next week delayed- COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Friday, March 23, 2007) – The planned overnight closures of north and southbound I-25 to shift traffic to under the Bijou Street Bridge next week have moved out two days to Wednesday and Thursday nights. The Bijou Street Bridge deck has been poured and the new I-25 lanes are nearly complete but the necessary agency approvals are not yet in place. This shift in traffic will allow workers to begin reconstruction of the southbound on and off-ramps to Bijou Street, which are expected to re-open by end of September 2007.

COSMIX Construction Impacts UPDATE: Weekend Closure of the Cimarron Street Bridge Cancelled - COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo (Friday, March 23, 2007) – Progress on the Cimarron Street Bridge demolition is being impacted by the railroad’s schedule and the large number of trains passing through. Coupled with the potential for rain this weekend, crews have decided to not impact the traveling public and have cancelled the weekend closure of the Cimarron Street bridge. Demolition of the bridge will proceed even without the closure. However, crews will wait until off hours to remove girders by staging on Conejos rather than Cimarron Street in order to further minimize the impacts to traffic. With this new approach, demolition will likely extend through the end of March but the impacts to traffic will be fewer. Motorists can continue to expect occasional one lane operations from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Saturday, March 31.

Interstate closures to shift traffic under the Bijou Street Bridge, Monday, March 26, and Tuesday, March 27 -  COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Thursday, March 22, 2007) – COSMIX crews have recently completed the future northbound lanes under the Bijou Street Bridge and will be pouring the bridge deck for the Bijou Street Bridge over I-25 this weekend. With this milestone, Rockrimmon Constructors will be ready to begin shifting I-25 traffic back onto mainline I-25 under the Bijou Street Bridge as early as Monday, March 26, pending CDOT and City approval. To complete the traffic shift, two successive nights of closures and detours will be necessary to successfully move traffic from their current position on the west of the bridge to under the bridge. The new northbound lanes are wide enough to handle both north and southbound traffic. This shift in traffic will allow workers to begin reconstruction of the southbound on and off-ramps to Bijou Street.

COSMIX Construction Impacts: Demolition of the Cimarron Bridge COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Tuesday, March 20, 2007) – Demolition of the south Cimarron Street bridge commences tomorrow with deck removal. Demolition activities will have minimal impact to traffic on the north bridge. However, motorists can expect occasional one lane operations from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Friday, March 23, while the bridge deck is removed. The girders will be removed from the south bridge from Friday night to Monday morning with a full closure of Cimarron Street, pending the railroad’s schedule....Construction Bulletin and Detour Map

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Friday, March 16, 2007) – As advertised last week, overnight from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. tonight through Thursday, the placement of massive concrete girders will require a full closure of northbound I-25 from the Nevada/Tejon Exit 140 to the Uintah Exit 143, and includes a full overnight closure of Colorado Avenue at I-25. This activity is scheduled for three nights but will likely only require two. Construction Bulletin and Detour map (.pdf file)

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Friday, March 16, 2007) – Despite the warm weather, the last several weeks have only seen minor impacts to traffic as construction has focused outside the corridor. However, for the next two weeks, construction activities will be increasing in scope and impact.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Friday, March 9, 2007) – Changes along I-25 at Colorado and Bijou are becoming more evident as the retaining walls are getting higher and the Bijou Street bridge deck over I-25 takes shape this week. Only minor overnight impacts are expected through the week as construction is focused outside the corridor.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Friday, March 9, 2007) - Rockrimmon Constructors will be placing girders ranging from 80 to 88 feet long, for the new Bijou Street bridge over Interstate 25. Fourteen girders will be lifted onto bridge piers by cranes during the operation.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Sunday, March 4, 2007) – Few construction activities will impact the traveling public this week as much of the work will focus on areas outside of the corridor. The primary work activities this week will be the start of construction of the Pulpit Rock noise wall and the deck pours for the I-25 bridges over Mark Dabling Boulevard. Demolition of the Cimarron Street south bridge has been postponed until March 19. The impacts and closures this week include:

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007) – With warm temperatures once again upon us, the COSMIX Project saw a tremendous amount of concrete being poured last week. The southbound I-25 bridge deck over Monument Creek was poured and the paving crew began pouring the northbound I-25 lanes in the Bijou area. The landscape in the Bijou area continues to change as the new Bijou bridge over I-25 takes shape every day. However, I-25 from Cimarron to Uintah Street continues to weave through the construction zone, so motorists are reminded that the speed limit is 45 mph and to please allow room for merging traffic. The impacts and closures this week include:

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Feb. 22, 2007) – The southbound off-ramp from Interstate 25 to Garden of the Gods Road (Exit 146) opened today in its final alignment, marking the completion of another milestone on the COSMIX project.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo (Feb. 19, 2007) – Corporate Centre Drive Off-Ramp from Southbound I-25 Reopens - COSMIX construction crews today reopened the off ramp to Corporate Centre Drive from southbound Interstate 25, marking another milestone as the project speeds toward completion late this year.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Friday, Feb. 16, 2007) – The majority of COSMIX construction impacts will come early next week, including the anticipated start of construction at the Cimarron Bridge. However, the majority of impacts to traffic associated with the demolition and eventual reconstruction of the Cimarron Street bridge will be to Conejos Street, which runs under the Cimarron Bridge. There will be the occasional closure of east or westbound Cimarron Street but Conejos Street, which runs underneath the bridge, will experience longer term closures.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007) – COSMIX construction crews had a number of construction activities planned for the I-25 corridor this week but Mother Nature had her own winter weather plans. The remaining overnight lane closures scheduled for this week have been postponed, but crews will try again on Thursday night with the re-striping of southbound I-25 from Woodmen to Corporate Drive.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Friday, Feb. 9, 2007) – Numerous construction activities are again planned for the I-25 corridor this week but are highly dependent on weather. The majority of overnight lane closures scheduled are for re-striping and moving barrier.

Full closure of northbound I-25 from S. Nevada / Tejon Exit 140 to Uintah Street Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2007 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007) – While the temperature rises, the construction activities also increase, specifically along the I-25 corridor from Cimarron to Bijou Streets. The overnight northbound closure scheduled for this week is one of those activities that depends on rising temperatures. Also scheduled for this week are a few activities in preparation for the demolition of the eastbound Cimarron bridge.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007) – the COSMIX Project plans on shifting the northbound I-25 lanes to the west from Cimarron Street to Colorado Avenue. This traffic shift will allow for the reconstruction of the northbound lanes from Cimarron to Bijou Streets. In addition, the shift will alter the northbound on-ramp from Cimarron and will improve the sight distance for merging traffic from Cimarron with northbound I-25.

Construction Bulletin - COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo (January 31, 2007) Pikes Peak Greenway Trail Detour - Demolition crews are working their way east on the Bijou bridge and will be demolishing the portion of the bridge over the Pikes Peak Greenway Trail in the coming week. While the bridge is being reconstructed and for the safety of trail users, the trail under the bridge will be fenced off and a detour has been established. Attached is a notice and map of the trail detour, which runs from Monument Valley Park to America the Beautiful Park using Cascade Avenue, Sierra Madre, and Colorado Avenue to separate pedestrians and cyclists from heavy equipment.

Construction Bulletin - COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo (Tuesday, January 30, 2007) - Closure of the Bijou / Kiowa loop around the west side of St. Mary's Cathedral is beginning by the end of this week. This will be the first phase of the reconstruction of Bijou and Kiowa Streets, the median islands, and the pedestrian sidewalks lasting through spring 2007. All work in this area is expected to be complete by late summer / early fall.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Friday, Jan. 19, 2007) – A few overnight lane closures will be necessary this week from Cimarron Street to Bijou Street as crews continue to widen the interstate out to the east towards Monument creek. All lanes will reopen by 5:30 a.m. Please remember that the Interstate speed limit in the COSMIX construction zone is 45 miles per hour.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Jan. 25, 2007) – The first phase of demolition of the City of Colorado Springs’ Cimarron Street bridge will be done by Rockrimmon Constructors, the project contractor for COSMIX, as part of the City’s emergency plan to replace the deteriorating structure. The funding for the project comes from the one percent Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority (PPRTA) sales tax approved by voters in 2004.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Friday, Jan. 19, 2007) – The Bijou bridge over I-25 is completely down and the bridge over Monument Creek and the rail road is nearly half demolished. Demolition of the 70 year old bridge structure will continue throughout the next two weeks.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Friday, Jan. 12, 2007) – The extreme cold this weekend after the melt down that began mid-week will result in icy roadway conditions throughout the State. Please drive carefully and remember to keep adequate distance between you and the vehicle in front of you.

COSMIX Construction Impacts UPDATE: Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007 - COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007) – An emergency lane closure was implemented this morning at 10 a.m. on northbound I-25 at Rockrimmon Boulevard Exit 147 to repair a hole that has developed in the right lane along the shoulder. Northbound I-25 is currently experiencing congestion and delays from Rockrimmon Boulevard, Exit 147, down to Garden of the Gods Road, Exit 146. Crews have begun working on the roadway repair and anticipate having all lanes open at approximately 3 p.m., before the afternoon peak travel time.

COSMIX Construction Impacts UPDATE: Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Tuesday, Jan. 09, 2007) – Due to the potential for snow beginning Thursday, crews will move up the planned weekend impacts for northbound I-25 to Wednesday night, January 10. Starting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday night, north and southbound I-25 will be reduced to one lane from Cimarron Street to Bijou Street. This left lane closure will be followed by a full closure at 9 p.m. of northbound I-25 from S. Nevada Ave to Uintah Street. Southbound I-25 will not close overnight. All lanes will be open by 5 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 11. Click here for detour map.pdf

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Sunday, Jan. 07, 2007) – The Bijou Street Bridge has been closed since Wednesday and half of the bridge over I-25 is already demolished. Demolition of the bridge over I-25 will continue at night through mid-week, while demolition of the Bijou Bridge over Monument Creek and the rail road tracks will continue this week during the day.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Friday, Jan. 5, 2007) COSMIX Bijou Bridge Demolition Party Cancelled Saturday Jan. 6, 2007 – The Bijou bridge demolition party planned by the COSMIX team, the City of Colorado Springs and the Downtown Partnership to celebrate the start of construction of the new Bijou bridge has been cancelled due to weather. The public can still view the demolition of the portion of the Bijou bridge over Monument Creek and the rail road tracks from Monument Valley Park, on the east side of Bijou. The Bijou bridge over I-25 will continue to be demolished at night. Demolition of the entire bridge structure should take approximately two weeks.

COLORADO SPRINGS (Monday, Jan. 01, 2007) – In her final act for 2006, Mother Nature’s wrath left more snow than crews could clean up to effectively close the Bijou Bridge and implement the detours. The last-minute pardon of the decades old bridge, previously scheduled for closure tomorrow and demolition on Jan. 3, will keep Bijou open for a few more days. However, the heavy equipment is warmed up and now ready to close the bridge overnight on January 3. The new date to begin demolition is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 4, weather pending. Demolition will likely take two to three weeks.

Construction Bulletin - COSMIX Closes Bijou Bridge for reconstruction January 2, 2007 - For more than two years, the Bijou Interchange has been scheduled to close on January 2, 2007. Although the Bijou Street Bridge may be closed for construction, there are still several access routes into downtown Colorado Springs, including Cimarron Street and Colorado Avenue. Although these other two routes are being impacted by construction, they will remain open throughout 2007.

Notice of Impact to Pikes Peak Avenue - The Bijou Street interchange will be closed for reconstruction from January 2, 2007, through early October 2007. To minimize the inconvenience of the Bijou Street closure, a temporary southbound Exit 142 (located just south of Bijou Street) will provide motorists with a detour to Downtown or the Westside. The temporary off-ramp will allow motorists to exit southbound I-25 just south of the V.A. building, cross Spruce Street and travel west on Pikes Peak Avenue to Walnut. A temporary light will be installed at the intersection of Walnut Street and Pikes Peak to allow vehicles to turn south to Colorado Avenue.

COSMIX Construction Impacts: Tuesday, Dec 26, through Friday, Dec 29, 2006 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo (Tuesday, Dec 26, 2006) – Last week’s snow storm forced some of the planned work and impacts to be rescheduled until this week, including setting the I-25 girders over Mark Dabling Boulevard. Girder placement will occur today and tomorrow with one lane operations on Mark Dabling Boulevard. In addition, some of the striping on southbound I 25 between N. Academy Avenue and Woodmen Road was damaged in the snow storm. With the warmer temperatures, the striping is being repaired today from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a lane closure from Academy to Woodmen.

Wed, Dec. 17, 2006 - Due to the increased snow and wind, today's planned closure of Mark Dabling Boulevard has been cancelled for safety reasons. We apologize about any inconvenience this may have caused. All other overnight lane closures of I-25 planned for tonight have been cancelled.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Wed, Dec. 17, 2006) – COSMIX crews will take advantage of schools and businesses closing due to the storm to place girders for the north and southbound I-25 bridges over Mark Dabling Boulevard. To accommodate the girder placement operations, crews will close Mark Dabling from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today from the northbound off-ramp (Exit 147) to Rockrimmon Boulevard. Both I-25 exits will remain open but Mark Dabling will be closed at I-25. Motorists will be detoured around the closure on Rusina Road / Pro Rodeo Drive via Rockrimmon Boulevard and Garden of the Gods Road.

Notice of Mark Dabling Boulevard Impacts December 19 through December 22, 2006 - Mark Dabling Boulevard will shift slightly to the east from Dec. 19 through Dec. 22, 2006 in order to minimize inconvenience to the traveling public and to accommodate placing the girders for the north and southbound I-25 bridges overhead. Although the lanes are shifting to the east (approximately 15 feet) under the bridges, one lane operations will continue from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. throughout the week and motorists can expect minor congestion and delays. The girder placement should be complete by the end of the week and traffic will shift back to the west under the bridges.

COSMIX Construction Impacts: Sunday, Dec 17, through Friday, Dec 22, 2006, COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo (Sunday, Dec 17, 2006) – Construction continues on numerous bridge structures in the Nevada / Rockrimmon area this week but it is the anticipated closure of the Bijou bridge that is still several weeks away. The closure of the Bijou Bridge remains January 2, 2007. Several overnight lane closures on the Interstate will be necessary this week to get a few work activities completed before for the holiday weekend travelers take to the road. The impacts and closures are as follows:

COSMIX.Construction.Impacts.UPDATE:. COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006) – The traffic shift for southbound I-25 at Garden of the Gods announced earlier this week has been moved up to 7 p.m. instead of 8:30 p.m. Crews will pave and re-stripe the southbound bridge over Garden of the Gods before the temperatures drop overnight.
Traffic shift on southbound I-25 at Garden of the Gods Road
Thursday, Dec. 14, 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Southbound I-25 motorists will encounter a slight traffic shift to the east on the bridge over Garden of the Gods Road while crews pave the other half of the bridge. By 5:30 a.m. or earlier, traffic will shift back to the west over the bridge. Please check the 7-day outlook on the project web site at www.cosmixproject.com for continuing long-term closures or impacts not regularly listed here, such as the weekly one lane operations on Mark Dabling, Pikes Peak Greenway and Midland trail impacts, and long-term ramp closures.

COSMIX Construction Impacts - December 12, 2006 - Left lane closure on southbound I-25 from Uintah and Bijou Street - Tuesday, Dec. 12, 8:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. An overnight lane closure will be necessary for southbound I-25 between Uintah and Bijou Street for barrier placement along the inside shoulder.
Right lane closure on northbound I-25 from Bijou Street to Uintah - Tuesday, Dec. 12, 8:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. An overnight lane closure will be necessary for northbound I-25 between Bijou Street and Uintah for barrier placement.

COSMIX Construction Impacts: Monday, Dec 11, through Friday, Dec 15, 2006 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo (Monday, Dec 11, 2006) – Immediately following today’s memorial service for fallen Colorado Springs Police Officer Kenneth Jordan, southbound I-25 will close sometime between 2:30 and 3 p m today to allow the funeral procession to flow without interruption. In addition to southbound I-25 closing at Interquest Parkway for approximately 90 minutes, all southbound on-ramps between Interquest Parkway and Uintah Street will also close. The following COSMIX impacts and closures are planned for remainder of the week:

COSMIX Construction Impacts: Sunday, Dec 10, 2006 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo (Saturday, Dec 9, 2006) – Much of the asphalt paving and lane striping on I-25 has to be done at night with lane closures in place to accommodate the work. However, with the onset of colder overnight weather, crews have planned additional daytime lane closures for Sunday, Dec 10, which will allow the asphalt paving, striping, joint cutting and concrete sealing to be completed while temperatures are forecast to be warm enough for the work to be done. Typically, daytime lane closures are avoided to minimize the inconvenience to the traveling public For that reason, the following impacts and closures are planned for primarily northbound traffic early Sunday morning:

COSMIX Construction Impacts UPDATE: Thursday, December 7, 2006 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Thursday, Dec. 7, 2006) – The dirt hauling operations in the Nevada / Rockrimmon area are being wrapped up today, which means that crews will not need to close northbound I-25 tonight as previously planned. While the full closure of northbound I-25 from Rockrimmon Boulevard to Woodmen Road scheduled for tonight is cancelled, crews will however be implementing an overnight left lane closure from 8:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. to shift northbound traffic back onto the northbound bridge over Garden of the Gods Road by tomorrow. The impacts and closures for tonight are as follows:

COSMIX Construction Impacts UPDATE: Monday, December 4, to Friday, December 8, 2006 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Monday, Dec. 4, 2006) – A few additional impacts have been added to this weeks list of impacts and closures since yesterday’s advisory was issued. Most notably, northbound I-25 will close overnight from Rockrimmon Boulevard to Woodmen Road each night this week through Thursday. Late night northbound motorists will be detoured at Exit 147, north on Mark Dabling Boulevard, east on Woodmen to I-25. The impacts and closures are as follows:

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006) – Rockrimmon Constructors and the COSMIX team will be hosting a public open house on Tuesday, Dec. 5, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. for the public to learn more about the construction and impacts to the Bijou interchange, the Cimarron Street bridge, and the I-25 bridges over Colorado Avenue.

COSMIX Public Open House - Tuesday, Dec. 5, 5:00 - 7:30 p.m., Clarion Hotel Downtown, 314 West Bijou Street

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Monday, Nov. 27, 2006) – With cooler overnight temperatures setting in, fewer paving operations will occur but work can still proceed on numerous bridges and sound walls.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. This closure is tentatively planned for Thursday, October26, from 8:30pm to 5:30am, pending weather. The impacts and closures for this week are as follows:

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (October 22, 2006) – The COSMIX Project will rebuild or widen 20 bridges throughout the corridor. To date, six bridges have been completed and one additional, temporary bridge was constructed over the southbound off ramp to North Nevada Avenue to accommodate construction activities. In November, the girders will be placed on four of the remaining fourteen bridges. In the meantime, the traveling public has begun to notice massive tub girders being stored in the median near the northbound North Nevada Avenue on ramp. Northbound I-25 motorists are encouraged to pay attention to merging traffic from North Nevada Avenue and not the huge girders being lifted off extended flatbed trucks. Construction activities are interesting to watch but can be a distraction while driving. Please pay attention to the road and motorists around you.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (October 22, 2006) – COSMIX crews are on scheduled to implement a daytime lane closure today from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the Interstate from North Academy Boulevard to Woodmen Road to complete the inside median paving and striping. COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (October 8, 2006) – COSMIX crews expect to complete the demolition of the old northbound I-25 over Mark Dabling Boulevard this week with overnight closures. However, crews have already begun the foundations for the new southbound I-25 bridge over Mark Dabling Boulevard. The drilling and placing of foundations will require one lane operations on Mark Dabling Boulevard and motorists can expect congestion and delays.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (October 5, 2006) – To get ahead of the potential cold weather predicted for next week, COSMIX crews will implement overnight lane closures Friday and Saturday night on southbound I-25 from North Academy Avenue to Woodmen Road to complete paving operations. While overnight closures on Friday and Saturday night are not typically allowed because the traffic patterns are different, both CDOT and Rockrimmon Constructors would like to accelerate the paving on I 25 from Woodmen to North Academy in an attempt to beat the pending cold weather rather than be delayed by it. Recognizing the potential benefits to the public by completing work early, the Design/Build process gives the COSMIX team the ability to occasionally deviate from the contract if all parties agree.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (October 3, 2006) – COSMIX crews will implement overnight lane closures tonight for southbound I-25 from Bijou to Cimarron and northbound tomorrow night from Cimarron to Bijou while crews place additional concrete barrier. Significant construction to impact I-25 over next week
Numerous ramp and lane closures begin Saturday COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (August 25, 2006)
–The COSMIX project announced today several significant construction activities for the next seven days that will increase short-term inconveniences to commuters but eliminate several longer closures scheduled over the next several months. Impacts (detailed below) will begin Saturday morning when I-25 is reduced to one lane in both directions between Garden of the Gods Road and Woodmen Road until Sunday morning. Intermittent one lane operations and ramp closures will occur throughout the weekend. The off-ramps to North Nevada Avenue will remain closed until noon Friday, Sept. 1. “We realize this may cause some inconveniences to the public over the next several days,” said Dave Poling, project manager for the Colorado Department of Transportation. “But this work allows us to eliminate several significantly longer closures that would have been spread over a long period of time and provide a safer driving environment through the construction zone.”

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (August 23, 2006) – The COSMIX Project team will begin implementing nighttime I-25 speed reduction to 35 miles per hour (mph) when crews are working adjacent to an Interstate lane closure in the COSMIX construction zone. The decision to drop the speed limit from 45 to 35 mph when construction crews are working next to active traffic was jointly agreed upon between the Colorado Department of Transportation and Rockrimmon Constructors, and established in the best interest of safety for both the traveling public and COSMIX workers.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (August 22, 2006) – The southbound North Nevada off-ramp from I-25 will be closed tonight for construction activities. Details below: Southbound North Nevada off-ramp closure
Tuesday, August 22, 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Later this week, motorists will notice crews beginning to pave the third lane from Woodmen Road to North Academy Avenue. COSMIX Construction Impacts - COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (August 13, 2006) – A new, temporary off-ramp is in effect for the next four weeks for southbound I-25 to Garden of the Gods Road. The ramp allows southbound I-25 traffic to access westbound Garden of the Gods Road, but not eastbound. Southbound I-25 motorists wishing to access Garden of the Gods Road east of I-25 will be detoured at North Nevada Avenue, SB Exit 148A, and then south to Garden of the Gods Road. The remaining impacts and closures for this week are as follows:

COSMIX Construction Impacts - You are ready for the third lane but it’s not quite ready for you. COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (August 6, 2006) – Motorists are noting that the third lane between Fillmore Street and Garden of the Gods Road is paved with the final topcoat of asphalt and looks drivable. However, several items need to be completed, including the permanent striping, reinstalling lighting, and placing the median guardrail. The third lane should be ready for motorists to use by end of August, weather permitting. Regrettably, the primary obstacle to opening the third lane has been Mother Nature. Recent rains have made the median to wet to install the median guardrail and the road surface to damp for the epoxy stripe tape to be placed. The remaining impacts and closures for this week are as follows:

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (August 4, 2006) – COSMIX crews will reconstruct the southbound I-25 off-ramp to Garden of the Gods Road beginning Sunday, August 6, at 8:30 p.m. The work to rebuild the ramp will last approximately four weeks. As a result, a temporary southbound I-25 off-ramp will be built approximately 500 feet to the north onto Rusina Road. This temporary southbound off-ramp to Garden of the Gods will provide access to westbound Garden of the Gods Road with little or no impact to drive time.
