May 2007 Update:
As of the end of May, I-25 traffic will have shifted onto the new mainline
lanes and the frontage roads have become the exits for North Nevada Avenue,
Rockrimmon Boulevard and Corporate Drive. At this time, the third southbound
lane remains coned off from Woodmen Road to Garden of the Gods Road for
worker safety and so that crews can complete work along the inside shoulders.
Most of this work will occur at night since crews would be working behind
barrels adjacent to live traffic. Rockrimmon Constructors has an agreement
in place with CDOT to open all lanes for early beneficial use by the public
of mainline I-25 from Fillmore Street to North Academy by September 2007,
three months earlier than previously scheduled.
Timeframe: fall 2005 to winter 2007
The I-25 mainline, and the Rockrimmon and North Nevada interchanges
will be completely reconstructed as part of the second phase of construction.
This segment will take the longest amount of time to complete and the
greatest amount of work.
The key to this plan will
be the closure of several ramps.

day Outlook with daily closure details
Plan for Closures and Detours:
The project is committed to minimizing inconvenience to the traveling
public by maintaining two lanes of I-25 traffic in each direction from
5:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Description of Work:
- The North Nevada/Rockrimmon interchange is a major
I-25 linkage point for the northern Colorado Springs area.
- North Nevada Avenue and Rockrimmon Boulevard will be
interconnected through a newly configured split-diamond interchange,
adding Collector-Distributor (C-D or frontage) roads between the two
interchanges.
- The project will also connect Corporate Drive to Nevada
Avenue.
- The new North Nevada/Rockrimmon configuration will be
an improvement to local access, providing better connectivity to neighborhoods
on both sides of I-25 between Rockrimmon and North Nevada Avenue.
- Work will occur from the Mark Dabling/Rockrimmon interchange
ramps (Exit 147) on the south to the Cottonwood Creek bridge on the
north.
- New construction will connect with the existing south
end roadway improvements associated with the recently completed Woodmen
Road interchange project.
Major Work Items:
- A new North Nevada/Rockrimmon interchange with new Collector-Distributor
(CD or frontage) roads
- Three lanes on I-25 in both directions
- Interchange improvements that include 12 new bridge structures
- Reconstruction of the Rockrimmon Boulevard and Mark Dabling
Boulevard intersection
- A connection between North Nevada Avenue and Corporate
Drive
- 1.8 miles of Retaining walls from 6 to 36 feet tall
- Noise wall for the Pulpit Rock neighborhood
- Improvements to I-25 from Garden of the Gods Road to
Woodmen Road will be paved in concrete.
- The North Nevada/Rockrimmon interchange will be designed
and constructed to be readily adaptable to, and a safer work zone for,
proposed future expansions of I-25 to eight through-lanes (four lanes
each way).
