Move It logo imageMove your car! It's not just a good idea. It's the law.
The COSMIX Project reminds drivers that state law says it's OK to get out of the way if you're involved in a minor accident on the interstate. Police and insurance companies will not penalize you for moving your car off the highway if you've been involved in a minor fender bender. In fact, State law requires motorists involved in a minor accident on a divided highway - including the COSMIX construction zone - to move their vehicles off the highway when:
• the vehicle is driveable
• no drugs or alcohol are involved and
• there are no injuries
Once at a safe location, drivers can notify law enforcement and exchange information.

Slow down for the Cone Zone

The I-25 Cone Zones are marked by concrete barriers, cones, barrels, and signs where road construction is taking place. It is critical to slow down and drive with extra caution through these areas, and pay attention to traffic controls. Motorists who ignore these postings and common sense, do so at risk to themselves, their passengers, fellow drivers and the COSMIX construction crews. Slowing down will save lives and prevent costly vehicle repairs. Speeding in construction zones can result in traffic fines being doubled.

Consider the following safety tips whenever driving through the Cone Zone:

  • Drive an alternative route when possible.
  • Watch for road signs that give warnings and information.
  • Pay attention. Expect the unexpected.
  • Obey posted speed limits. Slow down.
  • Increase your following distance behind other vehicles.
  • Avoid abrupt driving maneuvers. Use your turn signals when changing lanes or merging.
  • Turn on your emergency flashers if you must come to a full stop on the highway.
  • Respond promptly to flaggers and road workers.
  • Give road workers an extra “brake”
  • Never respond to "road ragers".
  • Be patient, cautious, and courteous.

Courtesy Patrols
During construction activities, a tow truck service will be contracted to provide assistance to stranded motorists thorough services such as providing one gallon of gasoline, cellular phone service at no charge, and a free tow for any disabled vehicle to COSMIX-specified locations. The hours of operation for the courtesy patrol will be Monday through Friday, during peak travel times. The patrols will be done within the COSMIX construction limits along I-25, its ramps and collector-distributor roads.
