I-25 widening is also occuring from north of Garden of the Gods Road to Rockrimmon Boulevard. This portion paving will be concrete from the Garden of the Gods bridges to the recently completed portion at Woodmen Road. Paving for the third lane from Fillmore Street to Garden of the Gods Road is complete for both north and southbound I-25 in this area, however, concrete barriers will remain in place through the spring of 2006 to allow for the completion of median and drainage work.

HOLLAND PARK NEIGHBORHOOD NOISE WALL:

The Holland Park sound barrier is complete except for earthwork and landscaping, which will be complete in the next couple of weeks. This involves leveling out the alley side of the wall and grading and re-seeding the hillside down to the interstate.

ELLSTON STREET BRIDGE:

Widening of the I-25 bridge structures over Ellston Street will be complete by mid-December.  The third lane, however, will not be opened to traffic until late spring when the overnight temperatures warm up enough for the final asphalt topcoat.

NORTHBOUND ON-RAMP at GARDEN OF THE GODS ROAD:

Paving of the northbound on-ramp at Garden of the Gods Road is proceeding. This activity has resulted in the reduction of the on-ramp to one lane.  In addition, the left turn lanes from eastbound Garden of the Gods Road has been reduced from two to one lane. Construction will last through the end of December.

MARK DABLING & ROCKRIMMON BOULEVARDS:

Several utilities including electric, gas and water lines buried under Rockrimmon Boulevard and Mark Dabling Boulevard are beign relocated deeper to allow Mark Dabling to be lowered approximately five feet.  In addition, the foundations for the collector-distributor bridges over Mark Dabling Boulevard and the Union Pacific railroad are being placed. To accomodate this work, Mark Dabling Blvd. has been reduced to one lane each way south of Rockrimmon Boulevard to the on- and off-ramps for northbound I-25. A temporary three-way stop sign has been added on Mark Dabling just south of I-25 for access from the northbound Interstate off-ramp. Traffic congestion, flaggers, and occasional one-lane operations can be expected at any time on Mark Dabling Boulevard and both the north and southbound on- and off-ramps. Impacts can be expected to last through December 2006.

MONUMENT CREEK AT ROCKRIMMON:

The Collector-Distributor (frontage) road bridges over Monument Creek have begun and work has progressed to columns and pier caps. Temporary stream crossings have been placed in Monument Creek to allow heavy equipment to access to the area.  The Pikes Peak Greenway trail remains open but cyclists and pedestrians may occassionally encounter a detour or may be temporarily stopped by flaggers and construction activity.

SPEED LIMITS:

Reduced speed limit of 45 mph can be expected in any construction zone on the Interstate. Colorado Springs Police and the State Patrol are actively patrolling the area and issuing citations for speed infractions.
